Thursday, July 16, 2026, 10:00 am – 1:30pm ET
Lithium battery fires present distinct investigative and coverage challenges. This presentation focuses on the forensic investigation of lithium-ion battery incidents, including identifying indicators of thermal runaway, distinguishing between origin and cause, and evaluating potential contributing factors such as product defects, improper charging, mechanical damage, or environmental conditions. Emphasis will be placed on evidence preservation, scene documentation, and coordination with fire investigators, engineers, and manufacturers through a live burn presentation.
This session also explores how these losses intersect with policy language and coverage determinations. Topics include evaluating first-party property claims and the role of exclusions or endorsements related to the investigation and cause of the loss as well as subrogation issues that arise.
Through real-world scenarios and emerging claim trends, this presentation equips claims attendees with practical tools to investigate lithium battery fires effectively and navigate the complexities of coverage analysis in these increasingly common and high-exposure losses.
